Morales Homers From Both Sides In Same Inning

Oct 31, 2014 2:14 PM

Kendrys Morales homered from both sides of the plate during a nine-run sixth inning for the Angels in their 15-8 win over the Rangers on Monday night. "I'm very excited since it's not an easy thing to do," said Morales, who spoke through an interpreter. "They were good pitches, perhaps mistakes they made. I felt comfortable, and I was able to connect." He is just the third player in baseball history to accomplish the feat. Morales connected for a two-run shot as a lefty off Texas starter Roy Oswalt that put the Angels ahead 5-3. He then hit a grand slam off Robbie Ross from the right side.

Sheets Ends Two-Year Absence With Victory

Ben Sheets helped lead the Braves to a 6-1 win over the Mets on Sunday in his first Major League start since 2010. He was so excited to be back at the highest level that he broke tradition and watched the final three innings from the dugout instead of the clubhouse. "I like to do that and I've had very good feedback on it," Sheet said. "You work so hard to get a victory. I ain't going to leave them out there. They're battling for me." Sheets pitched six scoreless innings to earn the win in his first game in two years. The right-hander allowed two hits and one walk with five strikeouts in his first start since July 19, 2010.

Josh Hamilton hit his 25th home run of the season as the Rangers defeated the A's for their 50th win of 2012. Texas is the first major league team to reach the mark this year. Martin Perez earned his first victory in his first major league start as well. "He did an outstanding job for it being his first time out there," manager Ron Washington said. "He had great mound presence. He threw enough changeups to get them off his fastball. He spotted his fastball well down in the zone. He competed. He was very good."
